Femeile fortate sa faca „sexul de supravietuire” pentru a reduce diferenta dintre beneficiile universale de credit

Ministrii sunt indemnati sa ia masuri dupa ce au aparut reclamantii de beneficii s-au orientat catre munca sexuala ca mijloc de supravietuire din cauza derularii creditului universal (UC).

Mai multe femei au spus Comitetului pentru munca si pensii la inceputul acestui an ca au fost nevoite sa apeleze la munca sexuala pentru a-si satisface nevoile de supravietuire de baza, inclusiv bani, mancare, adapost sau chiar spalatorie.

Cand problema a fost ridicata pentru prima data la Camera Comunelor in octombrie anul trecut, secretarul pentru munca si pensii de atunci, Esther McVey, a raspuns spunand ca „acestor doamne” i s-ar putea spune ca exista un numar „record” de locuri de munca vacante in Marea Britanie si „Poate sunt si alte locuri de munca in oferta”.

Comitetul a spus ca acest raspuns a fost „in totalitate inadecvat” si a sugerat ca Departamentul pentru Munca si Pensii (DWP) are „putina intelegere sau cunostinta” cu privire la aceasta problema, determinand deputatii sa lanseze o ancheta completa.

Ei au spus ca dovezile primite au fost „alarmante si tulburatoare”. Intr-un caz, o femeie le-a spus parlamentarilor, managerul unui magazin, a spus ca o va lasa sa scape de cumparaturi daca va face sex oral asupra lui.

Intr-un alt caz, o femeie a spus comitetului: „Sunt pe cale sa fiu trecuta la creditul universal. Voi pierde 200 de lire sterline pe luna, aproximativ. Gandul de a intra in datorii si de a nu avea bani este intr-adevar inspaimantator. Am copii. Nu pot face asta. Imi voi vinde corpul.

MPs said the findings highlighted “once again” the “deep, structural and administrative” problems with universal credit, including the five-week wait for a first payment, which has been widely condemned by charities for leaving people without support for weeks.

The committee said the DWP’s first attempt at a written response was “defensive, dismissive and trite” and largely ignored these personal, frontline testimonies, instead presenting what appeared to be its own internet research on whether there is a “direct causal link” between universal credit and survival sex.

Will Quince, minister for family support, housing and child maintenance, later apologised for this after hearing testimony from victims, and submitted a revised response conceding that there was a link, though not an “over-simplistic” one.

Frank Field MP, chair of the committee, welcomed the U-turn but said “that cannot be the end of it” and that the DWP, “having belatedly acknowledged that there is a problem, must take the steps to resolve it”.

A DWP spokesperson said: “We take all evidence presented to the committee very seriously and are extremely concerned to hear of these experiences. We are determined to ensure that no one finds themselves in this position and are committed to providing a safety net for the most vulnerable in society.

“Improvements have been made to universal credit such as extending advances, removing waiting days, and introducing housing benefit run on, and we are carefully considering the report’s recommendations.”
